Great, because we all absolutely love the Irish costume which is so full of colour and personality. It may interest you to know that Ireland does not actually have a traditional dress. The nearest thing would actually be Irish dancing dress, the origins of which dateĀ from as early as the 8th century. Even then most Irish period costumes were green and white. Red was avoided due to it’s relevance to England. Irish people loved to wear bright colours, however only the wealthy were allowed to wear more than one bright colour, as a sign of social status.

Irish costumes have been around for a very long time and are definately here to stay.
